  11.   The DDN MANAGEMENT BULLETIN is distributed online by the DDN Network
  12.   Information Center under DISA contract as a means of communicating
  13.   official policy, procedures and other information of concern to
  14.   management personnel at DDN facilities.  Back issues may be read
  15.   through the TACNEWS server ("@n" command at the TAC) or may be
  16.   obtained by FTP (or Kermit) from the NIC.DDN.MIL host [192.112.36.5]
  17.   using login="anonymous" and password="guest".  The pathname
  18.   for bulletins is ddn-news/ddn-mgt-bulletin-nn.txt (where "nn" is the
  19.   bulletin number).

  22.           Transition of the Internet Registration Services
  23.  
  24. As a result of the NREN NIS award by the National Science Foundation, non-DOD 
  25. registration services will shortly be transferred from the DOD NIC to the 
  26. new Internet Registration Service, which is a part of a service referred 
  27. to as the InterNIC.  Internet Registration Services (which include the
  28. registration of Internet Domains, Internet IP Network Numbers, and Internet 
  29. Autonomous System Numbers) are gradually transitioning from the DOD NIC to 
  30. the InterNIC.  The transition is expected to be completed by April 1, 1993.

  32. DOD USERS WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE FULL REGISTRATION AND HELP DESK SERVICES
  33. FROM THE DOD NIC, AND THE TRANSITION SHOULD NOT AFFECT THEM IN ANY RESPECT.  
  34. DOD users should continue to send registration requests to 
  35. hostmaster@nic.ddn.mil (IP, .mil domain, inaddr for 26.x.x.x) or 
  36. registrar@nic.ddn.mil (user registrations or TAC card requests) using 
  37. the DISA approved registration forms.   The DOD NIC Help Desk Number 
  38. remains (800) 365-DNIC.

  40. After the transition, the hosts.txt file will continue to be available from
  41. nic.ddn.mil, but it will include only MILNET hosts, gateways, and networks.  
  42. Currently, less than 1% of all Internet hosts are contained in the hosts.txt 
  43. file.
